Thiruvananthapuram: Fake currency worth Rs 21 lakh seized in raids

The police busted the racket following a probe into attempts to give fake notes at a hospital in the rural parts of Thiruvananthapuram.

Thiruvananthapuram: Police on Thursday seized fake currencies of Rs 21 lakh in raids at Attingal, Kunnamangalam and Feroke.

The cops also seized currency printing machines and arrested Kunnamangalam native Shameer, Feroke native Abdul Rasheed, Kadakavoor native Varghese, Chirayankezzh native Prathapan and Vembayam native Abdul Wahad.

The police busted the racket following a probe into attempts to give fake notes at a hospital in the rural parts of Thiruvananthapuram. On quizzing, they got details of the fraud that was operating from Kunnamangalam. Following this, police posing as agents of fake currency called on Shammer posing as an agent who wanted to purchase notes. It was based on this information that they conducted raids at Feroke and Kunnamangalam.
