Hyderabad: CID probe ordered into Eamcet-2 paper leak'

Five students, all rank holders, grilled by cops.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Crime Investigation Department has booked a case following a preliminary inquiry into the Eamcet-2 entrance paper leak allegations.

Probe officials suspect involvement of five students and two brokers. They feet that the papers were leaked from the printing press. Involvement of insiders, most probably clerical staff or other employees of Eamcet, are also being verified by the investigation team.

The CID teams have raided a few places in Khammam and Warangal, where the brokers operated. Officials have also grilled the five students, all rank holders, in connection with the case

Eamcet convener N. Ramana Rao and other senior officials have also been questioned as probe officials wanted more information on preparation of the question papers and printing procedures of the same.

A case has been booked under IPC Sections 406 (for criminal breach of trust), 408 (criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant), and 420 (cheating), read with 120b, Section 8 of the AP Public Examination Prevention Of Malpractice Act 1987.

Names of the suspects are yet to be revealed by the cops. CID officials are likely to make arrests soon after procuring evidence. “The investigation is still progressing. The teams have got vital clues in the case,” said a senior official from CID.

More than five benefited, says CID
Reacting to the CID probe, Eamcet convener N. Ramana Rao said that he and his officials would fully cooperate with the investigation. “We have already given all the information they asked for,” he said, refusing to elaborate.

CID officials have said that there could be more than five students who benefitted from the question paper leak. They also suspect that lakhs of rupees were involved in the scam.

The CID is likely to grill more rank holders in connection with the case. The suspected brokers are running education consultancies in various parts of the state.
