Two police imposters held in Eluru

KAKINADA: Eluru Rural police on Sunday arrested two persons -- Pampana Mahesh, 23, of Kallacheruvu village in Kamavarapukota mandal and Natha Nageswara Rao (40) of Vemulapalli in Lingapalem mandal – on the charge of robbing money from passersby by posing as police officers.

Eluru Circle inspector B. Adi Prasad said that the duo donning sub-inspectors uniform used to stop and extort passersby on National Highway No. 15 near Eluru. They stopped Shaik Moulana of Eluru on the highway and robbed him at knifepoint.

He said that the two were addicted to luxuries by extortions. The police seized an S-I uniform, one lorry, a motorcycle, a knife, ₹1,000 in cash and Aadhaar card from the accused. A case was registered and the investigation was on.
