Chennai: 3 arrested for stealing goats

Accused use bike, car to lift animals.

Chennai: Two bike-borne thieves were secured for stealing goats in Anaikattu near Madurantakam here on Tuesday. The accused were caught red-handed while trying to steal goats. They were beaten up and handed over to the police.

According to police, the arrested were identified as Ramesh(22) and Sathish(21) of Chromepet. The two had stolen the animals from Vinayagam of Anaikattu village in Kancheepuram.

On Tuesday afternoon, Vinayagam sitting under a tree near his house spotted two young men feeding his goats.

Within a few minutes, the men covered the face of the goats with a cloth and fled the spot on a two-wheeler.

Shocked Vinayagam alerted the neighbours who chased the accused for nearly two km and nabbed the men.

The villagers tied up and allegedly beat them up before handing them over to Anaikattu police. The two goats were rescued, police said.

Investigations with the men revealed that they would slaughter the goat and sell them on an online website.

A case was registered against the duo and they were remanded in judicial custody.

The accused already have a track record of criminal offences and allegedly involved in multiple cattle and motorbike theft cases.

Similarly, a man from Pallavaram has been arrested for stealing goats at night. Reportedly, a car was seized from him used to steal the goats. The car was spotted during a police patrol in the early hours of Tuesday Police found nine goats inside the car. On investigation, it was found that the goats were stolen from Acharapakkam.

The arrested was identified as Sai Kumar(27) of Pallavaram. The other two men absconded when police stopped the vehicle on Trichy- Chennai national highway. Reportedly, they had been stealing goats in the neighbourhood every night. The stolen goats are then sold to private hotels during day time.

The Acharapakkam police registered a case against him and launched a search for the two men.
