Child panel member held for sodomising orphan in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Child Welfare Committee member K. Krishna, who allegedly sexually assaulted a 16-year-old orphan boy, was arrested by the police on Saturday. Police said that he was nabbed from his house at Kukatpally and produced in court. Police picked him up on Friday evening, and after questioning arrested him.
As per norms, any inmate of the rescue home, who is being shifted should be escorted by a staffer from the District Child Protection Unit and the order should be authorised by a five-member CWC committee of which Krishna is also a member.
Instead of shifting the boy with an escort, he himself took up the responsibility of shifting him to another home at Dwarakamayee in KPHB. Since the home was undergoing repairs, he took the boy to his home and sexually assaulted him for over two days. The boy escaped from him, went to his relatives, and informed officials at Saidabad.
Later, the boy was brought back to the home. When he revealed about the incident officials lodged a complaint with the police. Krishna was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
The boy was rescued nearly six years ago and was staying at the rescue home in Tirupati, till he was shifted to the Saidabad home a year-and-a-half ago. He completed SSC in March 2016 and was planning to do diploma in MLT.
Sources said that in addition to this orphan boy, there were around five other boys at his home, who were supposed to be accommodated at the Dwarakamayee home, but were put up in his home due to the repairs.
