Siddipet: Man spreads fake news on whatsapp, arrested
Hyderabad: A member of a WhatsApp group has been booked in Siddipet district for sharing messages containing rumours of gangs prowling villages. Police identified the WhatsApp group member as Kishtaiah, and booked him under IPC Section 505 (public mischief).
Kishtaiah works in a poultry farm. The group admin, identified as Mahesh, works with a LPG cylinder supplier. ACP, Siddipet, Rameshwar who is a member of a WhatsApp group ‘Society on Friday’ found Kishtaiah sharing violent messages with fake content. He contacted the person and suggested that he stop sharing such content.
When he replied rudely, the ACP lodged a complaint with Siddipet I-Town police station. Mr Rameshwar said he had explained the user the ill-effects of spreading such messages and the consequences.
“I came to know that one Mallesh is the admin of the group and added me around six months ago. Usually I do not check the group, but having some time I was going through the messages and found the content. I called the person identified as Kishtaiah and asked him to stop sharing the content, but he was reluctant.” the ACP said.
Siddipet I-Town circle inspector Nandeeshwar said that a case is booked on Kishtaiah and the investigation was on. “Based on the evidence and after verification, the investigation will proceed.” he said. Kishtaiah worked in a poultry farm.
