Telangana: Protest over girl's death, friends allege foul play
Hyderabad: The mysterious death of a degree second year student has sparked a storm of protests in Siddipet with her friends staging a dharna alleging that she was raped and killed by her guardians.
The 19-year-old victim, an orphan and student of the Government Degree College, was staying in her teacher's house since nine years, and was found dead inside the house in suspicious circumstances. It is also suspected that the girl was two months pregnant at the time of her death. Her teacher’s 25-year-old son’s involvement is suspected in this. The police has started an investigation into the incident.
According to students from the Government Degree College, Siddipet, they came to know about the death on Tuesday night after her body was ‘abandoned’ by the teacher V. Padma and her husband at the house of a relative of the victim at a nearby village.
“On Tuesday, the teacher and her husband had gone out to attend a function. The girl was alone at home. When they came back they found her dead. They took the body to the girl's relative’s house and kept it there without answering any of their queries on how she died,” said a student from the college.
Meanwhile, Padma told the police that when she and her husband returned home on Tuesday they found the girl had vomited and fainted. They then took the girl to a hospital where doctors declared her dead. Siddipet police said they are probing the matter.
“Her relatives and college mates started alleging foul play as the teacher and her husband gave the body to the victim's relatives without any explanation. We had sent the body for autopsy and once the result comes out we can confirm what caused the death. As of now we have booked a case of suspicious death,” said Siddipet town inspector Nandeeshwar Reddy.
The victim’s relatives said the girl and her sister had been staying in their teacher’s house after their parents died. The teacher's son had allegedly molested the girl in the past. The girl had also developed some gynaecological problems and was taken to a hospital earlier.
