Hyderabad bike theft gang busted, 5 arrested
Hyderabad: The police busted a major bike stealing gang on Wednesday which stole bikes parked in front of houses and hotels at nights. The five-member gang had two students who stole bikes in Cyberabad and two receivers of the bikes. Police also seized 30 bikes worth Rs 16 lakh from them.
The arrested men are G. Suresh, a milk vendor, V. Gopi, a bike mechanic, D. Gyaneshwar Reddy and M. Ganesh Yadav, both students, K. Venkatesh, a DJ operator and Syed Johnny and R. Srikanth, both receivers.
Police said the accused started stealing bikes for money. They moved around in pairs and stole bikes parked in front of houses and hotels. They specialised in Hero and Honda bikes which had a market in villages.
“They usually steal cheap models of Hero and Honda as they could sell them easily in nearby villages. The costly bikes they stole were used to move around in the city,” LB Nagar DCP Tafseer Iqbal siad. The gang used to unlock bikes using dummy keys and give them to the receivers, police said.
Police found the gangsters were friends and had been convicted in different cases. After release they started committing offences. Suresh and Gopi are involved in 13 cases, Gnaneshwar in seven, Venkat in four and Ganesh in cases all over Cyberabad.
Police nabbed them while they were moving under suspicious circumstances. The arrested men were produced before court.
