Aircraft engineer gets 4-yr RI for abetting wife's suicide

HYDERABAD: An aircraft maintenance engineer was on Tuesday sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment and penalised ₹4,000 for abetting his wife’s suicide, as per a judgment issued by Ibrahimpatnam Court Justice Indira.

The engineer, Rakesh Kumar Singh, was inebriated and beat up his wife, Reshmi, at their flat in Happy Homes Apartments in Ibrahimpatnam on March 6, 2013, following which Reshmi died by suicide the same night.

Reshmi’s family filed a complaint, based on which Rakesh was arrested and a case filed.

The police said that Rakesh and Reshmi got married in 2007 and that Rakesh got addicted to drinking liquor a few months after getting married. He started harassing his wife over petty issues, they said.

Rachakonda police commissioner D.S. Chauhan and joint commissioner V. Satyanarayana lauded the efforts of the investigation officer, B. Narsiah, and additional public prosecutor K. Naresh Kumar in getting the conviction.
