Kanchipuram: 45-yr-old woman killed in suspected robbery attempt

Her husband is being questioned to find out if there is any personal enmity. Further probe is on.

Chennai: A 45-year-old woman was found dead in her shop near Thiruporur in Kancheepuram on Thursday morning. Police suspect that the woman, identified as S.Sathya( 45) was strangled during a robbery attempt as the jewels she was wearing were missing.

Police said the deceased and her husband run a fancy store near Murugan temple Sannithi Street in Thiruvanchavadi.

On Thursday morning her husband went home while Sathya was alone in the shop when she was murdered. Police said that they received information about the murder at around 11: 30 am on Thursday morning.

“Her husband Subramaniyan( 50) found her lying unconscious. He alerted the neighbours and called police.

A police team rushed the woman to a hospital where she was declared dead.

“We found injuries around the woman's neck. The gold bangles and gold chain she was wearing were found missing. Robbery as a motive cannot be ruled out. We are probing if personal enmity led to the killing,” said a police officer from Tiruporur station.

He said that a crime and forensics team has collected evidence, but there were no clues. Tirurporur police registered a case and sent her body to the Chengalpattu government hospital for post-mortem. There were also head injuries, police said. He said that police were questioning local residents and checking CCTV footage to see who visited the shop before she was killed. Her husband is being questioned to find out if there is any personal enmity. Further probe is on.
