Hyderabad HC quashes case against Ravela Kishore Babu's son

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday quashed a case against AP minister Ravela Kishore Babu’s son Susheel and his driver Mr M. Ramesh registered by the Banjara Hills police for allegedly harassing a teacher while she was returning home from school.

The police had registered the case following a complaint by the teacher alleging that one Apparao and a person with a tattoo on his hand had harassed her and tried to pull her into the car while she was returning home from school last month. Later, police found that the tattooed person was Mr Ravela Susheel and the other person was Mr M. Ramesh, and arrested both.

Police invoked Section 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) 354D (stalking) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code and also Criminal Law Amendment Act 2013 against the duo.

After being released on bail, the duo had moved petitions before the High Court urging it to quash the proceedings contending that the police had foisted the case without there being any evidence and despite the complainant herself failing to recognise them.

They placed a copy of the statement given by the complainant before the police in which she stated that she didn’t recognise Susheel. After hearing the case, Justice Raja Elango allowed the plea of the petitioners by quashing the criminal proceedings pending against them.
