Dance bar in Ranigunj busted, 29 arrested in late-night operation

HYDERABAD: Police busted a dance bar in Ranigunj and arrested 29 people in a raid on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The police rescued nine dancers.

The police said that they raided the Golden Deer bar following a complaint about noise. Police found customers were showering money on the dancers on the first floor.

Dance bars had been banned in Hyderabad since 2008.

Narrating the raid, the security guard of the bar said that 12 police personnel including four women entered the bar while seven others waited to catch anyone who escaped the raid.

Despite this, six customers managed to escape through the rear exit, while others were rounded up, the police said. The dancers were escorted by the women police in a separate vehicle.

The police said that besides 20 customers, they arrested nine management staff, including owners K. Venkat Reddy and Revanth Kumar. They said that the organisers had opened the dance bar over a week ago. “We will be producing them in court,” Mahankali inspector Kaveti Srinivasulu said.

“The owners-cum-organisers were taking care of the accommodation, food and travel arrangements of the dancers,” a police official said.

Despite the arrests, the bar continued to remain open to customers on Sunday.
