Hyderabad: After proposal rejected, man blackmails woman using phone pics, held

Hyderabad: A 27-year-old employee of a private firm in the city was on Saturday arrested for blackmailing a colleague using photos from her phone.

Cops said the suspect, B. Dinesh Kumar, had started harassing his colleague by sending her abusive messages after she rejected his advances. They added that he had threatened to leak images of the woman he had found on her phone.

According to official reports, Dinesh and the victim were colleagues at a private firm at Himayatnagar. A few months ago, Dinesh asked the woman to marry him but she turned down the proposal.

Angry with the refusal, cops say he transferred photos from the victim’s phone without her knowledge and proceeded to use them to blackmail her into submission. Dinesh is also accused of sending her abusive messages and illegally accessing the woman’s Facebook account.

“Unable to bear the torment, the victim was forced to quit her job at the firm but Dinesh continued to harass and threaten her. The threats in fact, became more severe after she quit. He sent her pictures to family members, relatives and friends from different mobile numbers and email addresses,” officials said.

Dinesh was arrested on Saturday and a case has been registered against him. A probe is on.
