Hyderabad: Alert guard scares off bank thieves

Police recovered crowbars, cutters, iron rods, a screw driver and other tools that the burglars used.

Hyderabad: Burglars failed in their attempt to enter the Chikkadpally branch of the Andhra Bank on Thursday midnight. They tried to drill a hole in the rear wall of the bank but fled when the security guard spotted them and raised an alarm.

Chikkadpally police said they entered the premises by jumping over the compound wall. Working in a two-feet gap between the compound and the bank wall, they used a crowbar, hammer and a cutter to try and drill a hole.

Alerted by the sound, the security guard, who was in the front of the bank, walked over to check up. On noticing him, the burglar escaped even as the guard gave chase.

DCP Central Zone V.B. Kamalasan Reddy said two or more persons may have been involved. “We are verifying the CCTV footage for clues,” the DCP said.
