Survivor talking to media may affect probe, says ADGP B Sandhya

Media persons received information on Saturday morning that the actor will talk to the media at 10.30 am in Fort Kochi.

KOCHI: The police investigation team has prevailed upon the actor subjected to abduction and sexual assault from addressing the media on Saturday citing a possible adverse impact on the ongoing investigation into the case. ADGP B. Sandhya, overall in-charge of the investigation in the case, told reporters that speaking to the victim would impact the investigation process. The matters related to the case should be disclosed in the court, she said. However, legal experts have found the action of the police inexplicable.

T. Asif Ali, former Director General of Prosecution, has pointed out that it is the right of the victim to decide whether to talk to the media or not. “On what basis is ADGP Sandhya preventing the actor from speaking to the media,” he said. The action of the police gives an impression that they are not convinced by the statement given by the victim, he added. Media persons had received information on Saturday morning that the actor will talk to the media at 10.30 am at place in Fort Kochi, the location of the movie in which she is acting.

As the media persons rushed to the spot the police mounted pressure on the actor and persuaded her to desist from talking to the media. When the media persons reached spot actor Prithiv Raj came and told them that media should not hound her while she is trying to recuperate from the incident and made an appeal to the media persons to leave her alone. The media persons then voiced a strong protest and stated that they came on an invitation and not on their own. Prithiv Raj then tendered an apology and said that he was unaware of the invitation.
