Pocso court disposes of 20 cases in 2 months, convicts 8 accused

Visakhapatnam: In a remarkable display of efficiency and commitment to justice, the special court for Pocso (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) cases in Vizianagaram district has disposed of 20 cases in a span of just two months. The court has also convicted eight accused persons, sending a strong message to those who perpetrate crimes against minor girls.

The court's swift action has been lauded by the district administration, which issued a statement on Saturday commending the judge, K. Nagamani, for her dedication and hard work. Judge Nagamani took charge of the court on September 24 this year and has since been relentlessly pursuing justice for the victims.

In a particularly noteworthy case, the court sentenced Yalla Ganapathi of Gurla mandal in Vizianagaram district to a maximum jail term of 45 years for raping a minor girl. The judge also ordered the government to immediately disburse compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim, with an initial payment of Rs 1.5 lakh.

Other significant convictions include 40 years imprisonment for Polipalli Durga Rao of Bhogapuram for raping a 7-year-old girl, 34 years imprisonment for Ram Kumar of Cheepurupalli for raping a 16-year-old girl, and 30 years imprisonment for Dharmana Prasad of Vizianagaram for raping a 15-year-old girl.

The court's stern action has sent a strong message to those who exploit and abuse minor girls. The judge's swiftness and determination in handling these cases serve as a reminder that such crimes will not be tolerated.

The district administration has also urged the government to expedite the process of disbursing compensation to the victims, ensuring that they receive the support they need to heal and rebuild their lives.
