COIMBATORE: Police have launched a search for a trio who allegedly attacked a youth with sickle and knife at Coimbatore court complex on Saturday.
According to police, tension prevailed in the court complex after a 22-year-old youth Surya from Sungam-Kamatchi Amman Koil Street was attacked by a three- member gang with knife and sickle in full broad light.
Surya, 22, was recently arrested along with two of his friends in an attempted murder case and released on conditional bail for stabbing a youth Karthicik of the same area on October 28.
Surya was waiting at the court complex on Saturday around 8.45 am to appear at the JM-6 court to mark his signature daily as part of the bail conditions.
Meanwhile, a gang of three arrived the court in motor bike, two among them got down and approached Surya along with a knife and sickle. Seeing them Surya ran, but the duo chased him, attacked with a sickle and stabbed him. Even as Surya screamed for help, the gang escaped on their bike.
On information, Race course police rushed to the spot, rescued Surya and admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Police have launched a search for the trio on the run.
