ARIYALUR: Police arrested a 78-year-old man for allegedly killed his 70-year-old wife by pouring kerosene and setting and their 30-year-old daughter on fire at Muttuvancherri village near Ariyalur on Thursday night. While Mrs. Mangalam was charred to death on the spot, her daughter Kalaiselvi was admitted to Government medical college hospital Thanjavur where her condition was said to be critical.
Police said that the accused Ganesan was frequently quarrelling with his wife over selling a piece of land, and following a similar quarrel on Thursday night, had mercilessly set fire to both his wife and daughter. On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body of Mrs. Mangalam and arranged to send her critically injured daughter Kalaiselvi to Thanjavur government hospital.
