Hyderabad: 7-yr-old evades rape bid, watchman held

Hyderabad: A Bihar native, working as a watchman at a residence in Banjara Hills, was arrested for attempting to rape a seven-year-old girl on Tuesday evening.

According to the police, the victim, a Class 2 student of a private school, was playing on the street when the accused, identified as Manohar, lured her to his room on the pretext of giving her chocolates.

He initially gave her a chocolate while she was playing and invited her to his room if she wanted more, but when he undressed her and tried to assault her, the girl escaped his clutches and raised the alarm.

Immediately, the girl’s parents and others in the vicinity tried to grab the watchman, but he fled. He was later arrested by the police and remanded to
judicial custody.

After questioning the watchman’s employer, the girl’s parents lodged a complaint with the police.

“Manohar was arrested and produced before in court while the girl and her family members was shifted to Bharosa centre for counselling,” said P. Sateesh, Banjara Hills police inspector. A case was registered under relevant sections of the POCSO Act, the police said.
