Kozhikode: The police arrested a woman on Wednesday in connection with the death of a seven-month-old child at Thamarassery on Monday.
The arrested, Jaseela, 26, is the wife of Karadi Parachikoth Abdul Khader, brother of the child’s father Muhammed Ali. The body of the baby girl, Fathima, was found in a well, and Jaseela confessed to the police that she committed the crime to avenge the child’s mother, Shameena.
The baby was missing from home after Shameena went to cook food after breastfeeding the child. When she found that the child was missing, she screamed and Jaseela herself said later that the body of the child was in the well. She also said that she found the body when she went to take water from it.
There were only Shameena, Jeseela and her three-year-old son Muhammed Mishal at home when the incident occurred. They were all staying in the same house. To confuse the police, Jaseela had also said that a person had come for drinking water just before the incident.
But further investigations proved that the statement was wrong which also led to her confession. She was remanded in judicial custody by the Thamarassery. court.
