Bengaluru: Murder accused attacks cops with knife

The accused, Chandra, 20, sustained bullet injuries in his right foot.

Bengaluru: A murder accused was shot and arrested by the Kanakapura police after he allegedly attacked a sub-inspector, who tried to catch him. The incident took place near Boregowdanadoddi at Sathanur in Kanakapura of Ramanagar district early on Tuesday morning.

The accused, Chandra, 20, sustained bullet injuries in his right foot. Harohalli police station Sub-Inspector Anantharam was injured as Chandra attacked him with a knife.

Chandra was absconding for the last one month after he allegedly broke into a house, murdered an 80-year-old woman and escaped with money and jewellery in Sathanur. Late on Monday night, the police received information that he was hiding at a house in Boregowdanadoddi.

“We surrounded the house around 3 am on Tuesday, while Circle Inspector Mallesh and Anantharam went in. Chandra ran inside the kitchen, grabbed a knife and attacked Anantharam. He tried to escape from the backdoor. Inspector Mallesh fired a warning shot, but Chandra still tried to escape. The inspector fired a second bullet at his feet. Both Chandra and Anantharam were rushed to hospital,” the police said. Chandra has sold all the stolen goods. The police are trying to recover them.
