Hyderabad: Hotel staff murder case solved, 1 held

HYDERABAD: Miyapur police arrested one Rathish Nair on Thursday, within 24 hours after he shot dead restaurant general manager Debendar Gayen, 35. Nair had opened six rounds of fire from his country-made firearm, killing Gayen on the spot.

Madhapur DCP G. Sandeep said Nair was a former colleague of the victim at the hotel. Rivalry broke out between them when they began competing for the same slot of general manager. They were seen arguing several times, police quoting witnesses said.

The hotel recently sacked Nair, police said. Before leaving, he threatened Gayen. Nairu procured a country-made weapon for ₹15,000 from Bihar and lay in wait for Gayen. When the victim stepped out of the hotel at 9.40 pm on Wednesday, Nair opened fire at him and fled.

Police using CCTV footage technical evidence and old-style sleuthing arrested Nair on Thursday.
