Hyderabad: A 21-year-old engineering student was arrested by the cyber crime police, Rachakonda on Friday. The accused was later identified as cyber stalker Vangari Bhanu Prakash.
According to the police, Bhanu Prakash, a B.Tech student was arrested on grounds of outraging the modesty of a woman by causing her severe mental agony.
Prakash cyber stalked the complainant and copied her profile pictures from Facebook and posted them on ‘Locanto’, a website.
Asst. commissioner of police cyber crime, Rachakonda S. Harinath said, “The pictures were accompanied with objectionable words like sex chat ('1,200) nudes ('200 per pic), direct sex ('5,000).”
In addition, Prasad also posted the complainant’s number on the website instigating unsolicited phone calls from strangers and plenty of WhatsApp messages at inappropriate times.
It all began, when Prakash’s close friend Akhil fell down in the classroom, as he frequently suffered from Hyperventilation.
This incident took place in April, and Prakash and his friends had gone to provide first aid to Akhil upon a doctor’s instructions.
He was asked to leave the classroom by an assistant professor after the girl complained that he was not of the same class and an argument ensued.
Inspector of police, cyber crime, Rachakonda, S. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy said, “Following the incident, Prakash bore a grudge on the complainant and decided to take revenge on her by defaming and harassing her on social media.”
The accused was traced to Badangpet, and was arrested and sent to judicial custody.
Based on the complaint a case was registered vide Cr No. 45/2018 U/s 354 (D), 509 IPC & Section 66 (C ) of the IT Act.
The mobile phone of the accused was also seized by the police.
