Hyderabad: In an alleged honour killing, 10 members of victim, Yellanki Vijaya Lakshmi’s, family including her mother and father were arrested by the Abdullapurmet police on Friday. Another five members are absconding.
According to Abdullapurmet sub-inspector G. Uday Kumar, when the victim’s paternal mother died she didn’t attend the last rites. So her father had a grudge against her. However, when her mother-in-law died she came to the city for her last rites.
Lakshmi, 27, daughter of Narasimha and Vanamma, of SC Colony married her to their neighbour Y. Suresh, four years ago.
Her parents did not approve of the marriage and there were heated arguments between the families.
On Sunday, Suresh’s mother Sunkamma died in a road accident. The couple had come to attend the last rites and when Lakshmi was cleaning the trash, her parents and 12 others slit her throat.
The accused persons have been booked under Section 302 r/w 34 of IPC and remanded.
