Bengaluru: Walkie-talkie, 33 bullet shells found on Bangladeshi

They were in for a shock when they found a walkie-talkie and 33 empty cartridges of 7.62 mm pistol from the shed.

Bengaluru: Panic gripped Kommasandra village in Sarjapura on the outskirts of the city when the police found a walkie-talkie and 33 empty cartridges of 7.62 mm pistol from the shed of a 20-year-old Bangladeshi national, who was later found to be staying illegally.

The Sarjapur police, based on inputs from the Internal Security Division (ISD) that illegal immigrants from Bangladesh were staying in Kommasandra village, raided the shed of Mohammad Shobikul Islam.

They were in for a shock when they found a walkie-talkie and 33 empty cartridges of 7.62 mm pistol from the shed. Shobikul was detained. During the interrogation, he revealed that he entered India illegally a few years ago, came to Bengaluru and did odd jobs.

He told the police that 13 more Bangladeshi immigrants, including three women, were staying in an agricultural land nearby, doing odd jobs.

Based on his inputs, the police detained Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Mohammadul Habib Khan, Mohammadul Shains, Ismail Khan, Mohammad Raqeeb, Mohammad Rubidar, Babul Khan, Mohammad Arif, Mohammad Saddam Hussain, Saniya, Kakili alias Rahila, Asma and Moula Rumi, all in the age group 20 to 30.

Preliminary investigation srevealed that Shobikul, a rag-picker, found the walkie-talkie and cartridges at a dump yard.

According to a source privy to the investigation, the walkie-talkie is non-functional and Shobikul kept the cartridges with him out of curiosity. But the police have not ruled out other angles and are investigating further.

In another operation, the Hebbagodi police arrested Mohammed Morshadulla Alam (28), who came to Bengaluru in 2011 on a student visa and was running a tourism business.

Alam, who hailed from Noakhali district of Bangladesh, had come to the city to pursue engineering. He did not complete the course, but started ‘Alam Medical Tourism’ in Bommasandra and was living in an apartment in Chandapura, Anekal taluk.

“He had used fake documents and had got original Indian Passport, Aadhaar card and driving licence,” the police said.
