Hyderabad: Unable to stomach the continuous dowry harassment of her husband and in-laws, a 23-year-old housewife hanged herself from the ceiling of her house in Chilkalguda. The deceased, Azmeera Priyanka had married Azmeera Kumar, a 27-year-old manager at a catering firm, in April 2012 and the couple has two sons aged 4 and 2.
“At the time of marriage Azmeera Kumar took Rs 6 lakh and eight tolas gold as dowry. After some time he started harassing his wife. Though his relatives warned him his mother used to make him harass his wife for dowry,” police said. “On Wednesday, Azmeera’s family demanded 4.5 tolas of gold and took 3.5 tolas from Priyanka. On Thursday night Kumar came home drunk and asked her to get Rs 4 lakh. She called her mother and asked her to send the money. Her mother replied that they will be coming on Friday. Unable to take the harassment Priyanka hanged herself on Friday," added the police. The cops booked a case and arrested the husband on Monday.
