Kollam: Man returns from custody, kills himself

The relatives allege that the Policemen insulted Renukumar's son and his friends who reached the station.

KOLLAM: A 59-year-old man who was taken into custody by the Kollam traffic police for drunken driving the other day was found dead by hanging at his house in Ashramam here on Monday. The dead has been identified as Renukumar, of Pooram veedu, Pooram Nagar in Ashramam. He was taken into custody by traffic police on Sunday evening near Kadappakkada on charges of drunken driving. He was later subjected to medical check-up and released on self-bail.

The relatives allege that the Policemen insulted Renukumar’s son and his friends who reached the station. They also allege that the man was illegally kept under custody and was granted bail only with the intervention of a police officer in the rank of DySP. Meanwhile, Traffic SI Anwar denied the allegations and claimed the relatives raise false claims against the Police. In a similar incident, another youth who was taken into custody by the Traffic police at Polayathode had committed suicide six months back.
