Chennai: Man held for rape, murder of schoolgirl
Chennai: Kancheepuram police on Monday arrested a 24-year-old man for the rape and murder of a 14-year-old Class 9 girl, who was found dead at her house in Tiruporur on Sunday evening with her throat slit.
The accused, L Ashok, a casual labourer is the neighbour of the accused, police said. He is a native of Uthiramerur in Kancheepuram district and lived with his family. On Sunday evening, he had noticed the minor girl alone at her house and had raped her. Afraid of being caught, he slit her throat and fled the scene.
The girl’s elder brother and elder sister who were away returned home around 7 30 pm to find the girl with her bloodied face. Police who rushed to the scene also found that there was enough evidence to show that the girl was sexually assaulted before she was eventually murdered.
The victim’s father had expired and mother works as a housekeeping staff in a private hospital and had left for duty around 6 pm. Her elder siblings had also left the house. Police who were investigating the crime grilled the accused on suspicion when he confessed to the crime. The accused was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
