Hyderabad: Venus blood bank raided
Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police raided a blood bank after complaints from a patient. The police raided Venus Blood Bank at Malakpet and collected samples. Earlier, the police had received complaints from a patient, who alleged that the blood supplied by Venus was not meeting specified standards. The patient said the blood had saline in it.
Police arrested two people, including a doctor, in connection with the case.
Sources said a patient from Global Hospitals was referred to Venus Hospital blood bank. The blood procured from Venus Hospital was tested by Global Hospitals. A senior officer of Global Hospitals said, “When we tested the blood in our laboratory we found that it had 40 per cent saline and 60 per cent blood. We immediately took the sample and the test results and submitted them to the police.”
Police said the blood samples collected from the bank was found to be spurious. “Saline or NS Sterile injection liquid was mixed with the blood. We seized five packets of white blood cells and seven bottles of NS sterile during the raid,” said LB Nagar ACP P. Venugopal Rao.
Police arrested blood bank manager Dr Chakravarthi and technician Sravan. “We booked them for cheating,” said the ACP.
Police said each blood bag was sold for Rs 3,000.
