Hyderabad: Snatcher held, one kg gold seized

He came to Hyderabad in 2012 and started chain snatchings in the city.He was involved in 21 cases till last year when he left Hyderabad.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad police arrested an interstate robber on Saturday. The suspect was involved in 26 chain-snatching cases and two robberies in Hyderabad. Police seized one kg gold from him. The suspect was active in states like AP and Karnataka earlier. Non-Bailable Warrants are pending against him.

The suspect, Shakeel Ahmed Mohammed Ali, hails from Bengaluru. “He was involved in several cases of chain-snatchings and robberies in Bengaluru in 2000 and 2001. He was arrested and remanded to judicial custody by the Bengaluru police. When he came out of prison he jumped bail and got involved in an attempt to murder case in Mumbai. He was convicted and sentenced to seven-year imprisonment by a Mumbai court. But, he came out on Parole and absconded,” said a senior police official from East Zone Task Force.

He came to Hyderabad in 2012 and started chain-snatchings in the city. He was involved in 21 cases till last year when he left Hyderabad. He came back to the city again this year and started robberies and snatchings, police said. Police will be booking him under the PD Act.
