Hyderabad: Denouncing Hinduism, Omer left home 2 years ago

According to the police, Omer was attracted to Islam since his Class X, which he completed from Ramakrishna Public School.

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh police is on an alert after the arrest of ISIS sympathiser Konakalla Subramanyam alias Omer by the Hyderabad police.

The Avanigadda police and Central Intelligence Bureau are questioning Omer’s parents, Mr K. Narasimha Rao and Ms Ramalakshmi, residents of Chinnapuram of Challapalli mandal in Krishna district for any information that they would have about him.

It was said that he had visited his parents 10 days ago. He told them that he would be going to Maharashtra on some work. Police is also getting information about his friends and their activities.

Originally from Kotta Majeru, Mr Narasimha Rao moved to Chinnapuram some 20 years ago. Narasimha Rao is a farmer and Omer, who had converted to Islam, is his younger son.

According to the police, Omer was attracted to Islam since his Class X, which he completed from Ramakrishna Public School. He was doing his Intermediate from Chaitanya College, both at Machilipatnam. Later he joined the degree course in Noble College but discontinued in the first year.

As many of his friends were Muslims, he developed an interest in reading the Quran. He also learnt to read and write in Urdu. He even fought with his family members and told them not to perform pujas at home.

Around two years ago, he had an argument with his father and left home, police said. According to his grandmother, Omer was staying in Hyderabad since then along with his sister.
