Hyderabad: Cook held for raping minor

Sandeep seduced girl with marriage offer and took her to far-off places.

Hyderabad: A 35-year-old cook was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor girl from his neighbourhood in Charminar. The suspect, Vagya Sandeep, allegedly took the girl to Bengaluru, Tirupati and Yadagirigutta and stayed in lodges, where he raped her several times. Police said that Sandeep lured the 16-year-old girl with promises of marriage.

The victim’s father said his daughter went missing from the house on May 29. “She had also taken her bag and some clothes. I approached the police and filed a complaint,” he said.

Although the cops tried to track down the girl they could not find her for two weeks. Later, the girl returned and told her parents that Sandeep had taken her to various places and that she was raped. She also informed police officials.

“The girl is a minor and it is illegal to take her to other places without her parent’s permission. Sandeep lured the girl promising marriage and took her to Tirupati, Bengaluru and Yadagirigutta, where he raped her,” said Charminar inspector K. Chandrashekhar Reddy.

Police booked a case under IPC Section 376 for rape and under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso) following a complaint from the girl’s father.

Sandeep, who is already married, had gone absconding after the case was booked against him. The cops set up a team and arrested him on Saturday.
