Food delivery 3 minutes late, HR manager calls Kannada 'dirty language'
Bengaluru: An HR manager of a private firm was arrested after he allegedly abused a food delivery boy for bringing the food late and making derogatory remarks about Kannada language.
The arrested has been identified as Sathvik Sachar, aged around 30 years and hailing from north India. Police said the incident took place on June 19, when the complainant Anil B.M. went to deliver food at Sachar’s house in RMS Colony.
“Anil works for a food delivery app and following the order placed by Sachar, he collected the food from the restaurant and went to Sachar’s house,” police said.
“However, he was around 3-4 minutes late as it was raining. But when he knocked on the door, Sachar was allegedly furious and started hurling filthy abuses at him for being late. When Anil tried to explain him in Kannada, Sachar further abused him asking him to not use the ‘dirty’ Kannada language and said that Kannadigas are lazy people. Hurt by his remarks, the delivery boy filed a complaint two days after the incident,” the police added.
Based on the complaint, the police booked Sachar under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the IPC.
He was arrested and later released on bail.
