Hyderabad: Child Welfare Committee member sexually assaults 16-year-old boy

The boy had been rescued a few days ago and was put up at Saidabad.

Hyderabad: A member of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Ranga Reddy district has been booked for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old orphan boy. Police said that Krishna, who is now absconding, had been given the responsibility of shifting the boy from Saidabad children’s home to Kukatpally. The boy had been rescued a few days ago and was put up at Saidabad.

“But instead of taking him to the home at Kukatpally, he took him to a different place and assaulted him sexually,” said KPHB police station inspector Ch. Kushalkar. A case under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has now been registered against Krishna and a hunt has been launched to nab him.

CWC is a quasi-judicial body appointed by the Women and Child Welfare Department under the Juvenile Justice Act. The Balala Hakkula Sangham meanwhile has demanded an inquiry into the incident, alleging that senior officials from the department were trying to cover up the issue.
