Kochi: With the probe into the Perumbavur rape and murder case hitting a roadblock, a reshuffle in the investigation team is likely to be effected on Wednesday even as protests by various organisations over the failure to nab the attacker is set to intensify in the coming days.
“A shuffle in the investigation team is on the cards with the new government set to take charge. We have received the intimations in this regard. Action is likely against officers who were in-charge initially on reports that they failed to promptly collect evidence,” sources said.
The cops are yet to come out with any conclusive lead as the investigation is currently based on the victim’s classmate at the Law College. Earlier probes focussing on the victim’s neighbours and migrant workers were yet to give any breakthrough.
“We have taken the DNA sample of her classmate to test if it matches those collected from the crime scene. This after his name was found in the victim’s mobile and diary,” they said.
Meanwhile, activists of the Kerala Pulayar Maha Sabha will hold an indefinite relay fast before the Kakkanad collectorate from May 27, to demand that the case be handed over to the CBI. Similarly, the ‘Justice for Jisha’ Forum announced that they would submit a memorandum to the new government demanding removal of a police officer from the investigation team.
"We’ll hold confluence of the activists of various forums at Thiruvananthapuram (May 29) and Fort Kochi Veli ground (May 30) to protest the laxity in the probe," said Thomas Mathew, a member of the Forum.
