Kesamudram revenue assistant dies after brawl with police
Warangal: Relatives of Kesamudram village revenue assistant (VRA) Bejjam Ranjit Kumar, 29, held a protest and road blockade on Tuesday at the Narsampet government hospital after the VRA died in an alleged brawl with the police late on Monday night.
Narsampet DSP Dasari Muralidhar said Ranjit Kumar and his friends were returning to Kesamudram after a party in Gunjedu Jatara. Their vehicle was stopped by the police at Bhupathipalli village.
Mr Muralidhar said the VRA had a heated argument with the police and refused to take the breath analyzer test. So the police decided to arrest him and his friends. He resisted the arrest and started a fight with the police. They managed to get him into the police vehicle and took him to the Gudur hospital where he suddenly started bleeding from the nose. The police rushed him to the Narsampet area hospital where he eventually died.
After coming to know about the incident his relatives and villagers arrived at the Narsampet hospital in large numbers and held a protest for four hours demanding that the police personnel responsible for his death to be suspended.
They demanded Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia and a job for one person in his family. DSP Muralidhar said action will be taken after the post-mortem report comes.
