Assailants' images released in Tasmac robbery attempt

They first sprinkled red-chilli powder on him and then hacked with a sickle.

Chennai: The city police released the images lifted from the CCTV footage of a trio who, a month ago, had hacked an employee of a private cash handling services company in their attempt to rob Rs 40 lakhs of TASMAC collection which was in his possession.

A cash reward on information leading to the arrest of the suspects whose images were released was also announced. Rajendran (54), security officer of Radiant Cash Management services, succumbed to the injuries on April 26. Rajendran along with Mohan, cash collector, had already collected nearly Rs 40 lakhs from about 25 shops, and were passing through Senthil Nagar- 100 ft Road, on April 25.

When the car had pulled over at Senthil Nagar signal, a trio appeared from nowhere and targeted Rajendran who climbed out of the front passenger
seat.

They first sprinkled red-chilli powder on him and then hacked with a sickle. Soon after the assault started, car driver-cum-owner Vinod Kumar fled the scene.
Mohan, who was sitting with the cash in the backseat, raised an alarm. As the public responded, the trio sensed danger and fled the scene by foot.

A badly injured Rajendran was admitted to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for treatment. Cops suspect that the gang must have had the inside information, and the assault case was altered to murder case.
