Bengaluru: A 37-year-old software engineer was booked under sections of Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) for allegedly sexually abusing his six-year-old daughter in Kengeri.
The police took up the case after the 55th City Civil and Sessions Court referred the private complaint filed by the engineer’s estranged wife. However, the accused, Avinash Jha, is absconding with the victim and the police have launched a manhunt.
According to the complainant, she got married to Avinash in 2006 and has two daughters, aged six and one.
She along with Avinash and daughters went to Sweden on job assignments.
A few months later their relationship deteriorated and they decided to get divorced in a Swedish court.
The court ordered the elder daughter’s custody to Avinash while the complainant got the custody of the younger one.
According to police, the couple along with their children returned to Bengaluru in April 2016.
While the mother left to her home town Patna along with her one-year-old daughter, Avinash lived with the elder one in the city.
As permitted by the Swedish court, the mother used to frequently visit her daughter in Bengaluru.
The complainant told the police that when she visited her elder daughter at the Oasis Mall in Koramangala on April 17, her daughter complained of Avinash’s weird behaviour.
The girl alleged that her father had sexually abused her while giving her bath and putting her to sleep.
The mother then lodged a complaint with the court stating her ex-husband was sexually abusing her elder daughter. She told the court that Avinash had inappropriately touched her.
The court later referred the case to the city police commissioner’s office, which transferred it to the jurisdictional Kengeri police for investigation.
As the statement of the victim plays a vital role in the investigation, the police are searching for Avinash and the victim.
