Bengaluru: Woman, son dead, cops fear foul play

The incident came to light when Santosh came home and saw both his wife and son hanging side by side in the bedroom.

Bengaluru: In a heart-wrenching incident, a mother killed her two-and-half-year son by hanging him to the ceiling of her residence and later ended her life the same way in Chandra Layout police station limits on Saturday night.

The deceased have been identified as Pratima Mangalorkar (28) and her son Satwik. Pratima was the wife of Santosh Shetty, a first grade officer in the Excise department.

Hailing from Karwar, Santosh and Pratima had come to the city a few years ago and were residing in Kalyan Nagar 14 B main road near Nagarbhavi.

According to police, the incident took place between 9 pm and 10 pm on Saturday and Pratima had penned a death note before taking the extreme step. “I have no interest in living,” she wrote in the letter.

The incident came to light when Santosh came home and saw both his wife and son hanging side by side in the bedroom.

Santosh then informed police who rushed to the spot and conducted mahazar before shifting the bodies to Victoria hospital for postmortem.

Though Pratima has written in the death note that she had no interest in living and hence was ending her life and also killing her son, police sense something fishy.

“We are probing the incident as exact reason for the suicide is not yet ascertained. The death note seems suspicious and it will be ascertained only after the investigation,” a police officer said. Chandra Layout police have registered a case.
