Chennai: 17-year-old held for attacking Presidency College students
CHENNAI: For attacking Presidency College students at Chennai central on Friday, the police have arrested a 17-year-old student studying in New College and recovered a one-foot knife from him.
The juvenile is a native of Gummidipoondi and is a first-year BA sociology student, said police.
He was nabbed when he and his college mates tried to escape after spotting police personnel near the government general hospital.
The attacked students, M. Asmath (18) and S. Ajith (18), are natives of Arakonam in Vellore district and studying B. Com second year.
The victims were travelling in an MTC bus on Anna Salai when New College students on another bus noticed them and dragged them out. Presidency College students later forced them into the bus they were travelling and thrashed Asmath and Ajith, snatched their headphones and cash before dumping them at Omandurar multi-speciality hospital bus stop.
Police have launched a hunt to nab other students involved in the attack. The Flower Bazaar police registered a case and arrested the juvenile student.
He was sent to the correctional facility for boys and girls at Kelly’s after being produced before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB).
