Bengaluru: 3 held for bid to exchange banned currency

The three were plotting to exchange demonetised currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations at Sayed's flat in Golden Palm apartments

Bengaluru: Three people were arrested by the Kothanur police for trying to exchange demonetised currency notes in the city and have seized currency notes of Rs 1.95 crore face value from the accused on Friday night.

The accused have been identified as Shashidhar, 26 a resident of Hosakote, Jaikumar, 32, a resident of Marathahalli and Sharath Shetty, 28, from Mangaluru. Syed Sameer, a real estate agent and the main accused, is currently absconding.

According to the police, the three were plotting to exchange demonetised currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations at Sayed’s flat in Golden Palm apartments in Kothanur Main Road.

A Hyderabad based real estate agent had approached them saying that he will exchange the demonetised currency notes. The accused had collected demonetised notes from their friends and relatives and kept the money in Sayed’s flat and on Friday and were waiting for the agent to exchange it. Just then the police raided the flat and arrested the trio.

Kothanur police have registered a case and formed a special team to nab Sayed.
