Miyapur: Man booked for murdering wife

The man and his family were harassing her for dowry.

Hyderabad: A 26-year-old woman missing since Monday was found dead in the water sump of her residence at Hafeezpet in Miyapur on Wednesday night. Police have booked a case of dowry death against her husband and his parents and kin.

On January 21, Mohammed Tajuddin, 33, a grocery store owner living at Hafeezpet in Miyapur, complained to Miyapur police saying his wife Shaziya Begum had gone missing from home since morning without informing anybody.

Learning that their daughter was missing, Shaziya’s family went to Tajuddin’s house and beat him up, suspecting he was responsible as he and his family were already harassing her for additional dowry. Earlier, a panchayat was convened in the presence of community elders to settle disputes between the couple because of dowry harassment.

The police suspected foul play when they checked CCTV camera footage to find Shaziya had not left home. On Wednesday night, during a search at Tajuddin’s house, the woman’s body was found in the water sump. “The woman’s decomposed body was found in the water sump and sent immediately for post-mortem,” Miyapur inspector S. Venkatesh said. “Further probe revealed that Tajuddin and his family had murdered Shaziya and dumped her in the sump,” he added.

The post-mortem report will say how she was killed.”

In reply to a query, the inspector said, “After lodging the complaint, thefamily of the accused locked their house and fled. So, they did not use water, in which the body was dumped for three days. A search is on to apprehend them and a case of dowry death has been registered against theaccused.”
