Cyberabad SHE Teams see rise in exploitation complaints
Hyderabad: Cyberabad She Teams receive more complaints of women getting cheated and exploited by men whom they met through matrimony sites.
Police ask women looking for grooms through matrimony sites to be cautious and not trust the person unless they actually meet the person in real.
The Cyberabad police said that people use various modus operandi to cheat and exploit innocent women, especially divorcees on the pretext of marriage.
In a case at Madhapur, the She Team police booked a case against one Praveen Kumar who lives in Dubai for allegedly cheating a divorced woman, on the pretext of marriage. After meeting on the matrimony site, the duo became close and he invited the woman to Dubai, where she got to know that Praveen was in a relationship with another woman and he cheated her by hiding the matter.
In another incident, a divorced woman was duped to the tune of Rs 16 lakh by a conman, who promised to marry her and sexually exploited her.
The woman believed the man and gave him money after he assured to give it back. However, once he got the money, he turned out to be a cheater and avoided her. A case was registered against the accused at Narsingi and was arrested, said the Cyberabad police.
The police said that a woman from RC Puram area got threats from one Vinay Kumar, whom she met through the matrimony site after her family rejected an alliance with him. The accused had made her cancel her engagement with another person and blackmailed her using the intimate photographs and conversations, following which the accused was apprehended.
There were two more cases of sexual exploitation of the women by conmen, who promised to marry the victims but later duped them. In all the above instances, the victims came in contact with the accused through matrimony sites, where the latter provided false information, just to exploit the women. However, many cases go unreported, said the police.
“It is an advice for women, who are seeking alliances, to ensure checking the background of the grooms before proceeding for a relationship or marriage. It is wise not to completely trust a person before meeting him personally,” advised Cyberabad DCP, C Anasuya.
