Chennai: Man stabbed to death by co-worker over drunken brawl
Chennai: A drunken brawl led to the stabbing of a 52-year-old man to death by his co-workers on Wednesday night, police said.
The deceased, identified as Sukku alias Govindharaj, 52, a resident of Sharma Nagar in Vysarpadi worked as a labourer in Madhavaram truck terminal.
Police said the accused had managed to escape from the spot but were caught within hours of the murder.
According to police, on the night of the murder, after the work around 11 pm, Govindharaj stayed at his workplace with his colleagues Anbazhagan, 45 and Suresh, 48.
Sources said the trio got into a drunken argument which ended with them verbally abusing Govindharaj. When the duo allegedly picked up a Stone on the roadside and smashed his head and fled the spot.
Govindharaj sustained a deep wound in the head and died on the spot. The police were alerted about the incident around 12 midnight. They registered a murder case and launched a search for the men.
When a patrol team spotted the duo moving in a suspicious manner and questioned them. They were then taken into custody by the Madhavaram police as they made contravening replies.
Further drilling revealed they had murdered Govindharaj and fled. They were arrested and later remanded under judicial custody.
