Rowdy who attacked policeman shot at, arrested by JJ Nagar police

Bengaluru: A notorious rowdy who was on the run after assaulting a policeman in JJ Nagar police limits on January 16 finally landed in the police net on Wednesday.

The JJ Nagar police opened three rounds of fire at the rowdy, Aleem Khan (34), before arresting him. Aleem had attacked a constable, Rajendra (50), with a machete on January 16. That day, the police control room received a call from the public saying a few miscreants were fighting in the middle of the road and creating a scene.

The nearby patrolling vehicle was informed and its driver Rajendra reached the spot. As Rajendra tried to intervene, Aleem and his gang members assaulted him with machetes. Rajendra sustained injuries on his head, abdomen and hands following which he was rushed to Victoria Hospital.

A case was registered at the JJ Nagar police and three teams were formed to catch Aleem. On Wednesday, Inspector Lingaraj received credible information about Aleem and rushed along with three members to an isolated area near Chikka Basti, where Aleem had taken shelter. When the cops went to arrest him, he again attacked them, forcing the inspector to open three rounds of fire at his legs. The rowdy was hit by two bullets.

A resident of Padarayanapura, Aleem is involved in cases of murder, dacoity and robbery in various police stations, the police said.
