Pampa police yet to file charges in gun powder case

The gun powder, recovered by a joint search operation conducted by the police and other forces.

KOTTAYAM: The Pampa police are yet to file the chargesheet in the case in which 360 kg of gun powder mixture was seized from Saramkuthy, Sabarimala, on December 2. This is due to the delay in the arrival of the explosive squad of the state police to defuse the gun powder now kept at an isolated place. The gun powder, recovered by a joint search operation conducted by the police and other forces, was found in 12 cans consisting of 30 kg each.

"The chargesheet is delayed due to procedural factors," Pampa SI Suresh Babu told DC. The police have arrested a Thiruvananthapuram-based contractor in connection with the case. The mixture was kept at a place a few hundred metres from the Sabarimala temple without the permission of the Travancore Devaswom Board, the police and the state forest department and in violation of the explosives Act.
