Bengaluru: Car hits a parked truck, 2 dead

The car got stuck under the truck, killing both of them on the spot.

Two people, including an accountant, died on the spot after their car hit a cement mixer truck, parked on the middle of the road following a break down, on Kempegowda International Airport Road near Devanahalli early Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Kumar (28), an accountant at a private firm and hailing from Jharkhand and Nitin Kumar (29), an employee of a restaurant near Mathikere and hailing from Madhya Pradesh. Soon after the accident, the truck driver fled. A police officer said that the duo were friends and decided to go to Nandi Hills on Sunday in their car, a Maruti Suzuki Baleno. A cement mixer truck was parked on the middle of the road near Devanahalli, following a break down, but the driver had neither switched on the parking lights nor put up any break down reflector to warn other motorists. Around 4.30 am, when the duo reached the spot, Rakesh, who was driving the car, failed to notice the truck and rammed into it from behind. The car got stuck under the truck, killing both of them on the spot.

Devanahalli traffic police rushed to the spot and shifted both the bodies to Akash Hospital and informed the family members of the deceased. Police said they are expected to reach here on Monday and the bodies will be handed over to them after postmortem.

Police have registered a complaint, seized the truck and launched a manhunt for the driver.
