Tamil Nadu: One held for online fraud

The police seized two mobile phones, ten debit cards and six sim cards from him.

Chennai: The police on Saturday arrested a person for extorting money from users of a bank to purchase goods online. The manager of Fraud Control Unit, SBI Cards and Payment Service Private Limited, Vipin Paul, earlier complained to the city police saying he had been receiving constant complaints from clients about hoax calls from a person asking for their credit and debit card information.

The search intensified after Rs 72,500 was debited from one of their clients, Soumya Gupta’s account for an online transaction in Flipkart. The culprit, Raja (35), a resident of Ponniamman Koil Street, Kandanchavadi was nabbed by a special team on Saturday at his residence after they found a courier delivery amounting to Rs 72,500. The police seized two mobile phones, ten debit cards and six sim cards from him.
