Tamil Nadu: History-sheeter relative held for possession of country bombs

Police sources said that a special intelligence was received about a gang exchanging country bombs with another.

Chennai: The usage of country bombs in Kancheepuram district has increased over the past one month with three incidents reported so far. A special team on Saturday arrested four persons - relatives of a history-sheeter for possession of country bombs.

Police sources said that a special intelligence was received about a gang exchanging country bombs with another. When the exchange was about to take place on Friday night, a police team was in waiting and learning of the police presence, the history-sheeters absconded. Rowdy Thaygu had asked for country bombs from two history-sheeters Market Vicky, Tollgate Vicky, police said. The duo had sought the help of Suresh who arranged the bombs.

Based on specific inputs, another team raided four family members of Thyagu including his mother and wife. They are being investigated. Only five days ago, police detained two persons who attacked a po liceman in Guduvanchery. One of the gang members, Surya is wanted in connection with the country bomb attack on the house of former village panchayat president’s house in Perumathanallur village near Guduvanchery on December 5.

K.S. Ravi (50), a DMK functionary, and his brother, K.S. Kumar (55) lived in separate houses in the same compound in the village. Both of them are into real estate business. On the night of December 5, a gang, which had come in a car, hurled three country bombs at the house and fled the scene.

Two bombs exploded and in the impact, Kumar suffered injuries. The former panchayat chief, Ravi was not present at home, police investigations revealed. Guduvanchery Police registered a case and arrested about ten persons in connection with the case- all relatives of the rowdy. However, the mastermind, Surya is still absconding.

On November 25, in scenes reminiscent of action movies, two cars were driven in a haphazard manner with persons in one of the vehicles hurling country bombs at the other vehicle near the railway station road in Kancheepuram. The person at the receiving end was Dinesh (35), an aide of slain don Sridhar. Three men in the black SUV had trailed Dinesh's car and intercepted his vehicle on the Kancheepuram-Vaiyaoor road and hurled the country bombs at the vehicle. Police arrested one person, Dhanikachalam, also a former aide of the slain don in connection with the case.
