Nellore: TD leader slaps revenue officials, action demanded

Revenue employees staged a protest at Atmakur on Saturday.

Nellore: Taking serious view over an attack on a revenue inspector by a Telugu Desam leader at Atmakur on Friday evening, revenue employees staged a protest at Atmakur on Saturday. The TD leader was a former chairman of marketing wing and he is at loggerheads with the local revenue officials over allotment of a tract of government land for a proposed temple at Atmakur.

The revenue inspector, identified as SK Jaheer Ahmed, went to inspect the land in question at the insistence of the tahsildar on Friday evening. He refused to speak to the TD leader when people promoting the project stressed that he should talk to the leader over phone on the issue. Before leaving, Jaheer told them that tahsildar is the authority on the issue and they should contact him. After coming to know about the RI’s stance, the TD leader rushed to the tahsildar office and slapped the RI before the latter realised what was happening. The driver of the leader also thrashed the RI, who was just recovering from a recent motorcycle accident. The TD leader relented after some bystanders pacified him.

Taking serious view of the incident revenue employees’ association leaders contacted the higher officials of police and the latter booked a case against the TD leader late on Friday evening. Meanwhile TD leaders tried to register a false case against the RI but the police did not entertain the move, sources said. To express solidarity with the revenue inspector, revenue association leaders from various parts of the district went to Atmakur and taken out a rally from tahsdilar office to revenue divisional office and submitted a representation to the revenue department officer demanding action against the TD leader on Saturday.
